Salt Spring’s Documentary Film Festival is coming up in a few weeks! The Film Fest runs March 2-4 and features local and international films. Local organic food will be available and admission is by donation. For more info, check out their website!

Whether you like locally grown veggies, cattle, art craft, concerts or zucchini races there will be something for you at Salt Spring Island Fall Fair!

This year, the Fall Fair will take place on September 17 & 18 and will be the occasion to celebrate all things Salt Spring on the theme “Green and Growing“. You can already view the catalogue online by clicking on this link.

Like every year, the 2011 edition will take place at the Farmers’ Institute Grounds, located 351 Rainbow Road.

Tonight, David Suzuki was invited by the Salt Spring Forum to present the movie “Force of Nature: the David Suzuki Movie” at Fulford Hall.

This inspiring movie was watched by a full attendance, and was followed by an hour of Q&A!

Along the Trail of the Tsawout First Nation Reserve

On the South end of Salt Spring Island, the Tsawout First Nation reserve offers a loop trail that takes you along the rocky shore, dotted with small white beaches, past groves of Garry Oaks, and through a tall cedar forest. Once inhabited by Coast Salish peoples, this area is a special place – we are welcome to walk here, but please read the sign at the start of the trail and respect their wishes for its use.

How does the HST affect your real estate purchase on Salt Spring Island?

There’s been a lot in the news about BC’s new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and a lot of people are unsure how this may affect their Real Estate transactions.

The good news for real estate buyers is that most Salt Spring Island properties are not subject to the HST. HST is generally only payable if you are buying a spec home from a contractor or a lot from a developer, but not if the property is a re-sale.
